Crash Course Cover Art

The rather engaging image from the front of the ‘Crash Course Manual’ is currently up on eBay, selling from a mere starting bid of $1,200. While the premise and book largely sucked, the cover does provide a rather fetching image that might adorn the wall of some lucky citizen. Rendered in pencils and paint by artist Robert Larkin, it’s rather a shame his website is under construction because I’d quite like to see more of his work…

I am in no way associated with this sale, just chanced upon it while rooting through eBay…

UPDATE: First time, no sale. However, the Crash Course Cover has been re-listed for a mere $1,000.

Black Omissions

Quick post. Got the new Black Missions version of the PARANOIA Troubleshooter book. A quick scan indicates re-organised, re-fonted, re-formatted, re-illustrated, and reduced in thickness/weight. Essentially, Allen’s XP edition with tweaks… and my name misspelt in the credits. Mongoose have been informed and termination vouchers duly issued.

I’ll post more about the new edition later, after I’ve stopped weeping…

GM's Day

For anyone keen to try PARANOIA for the first time or simply fill out their collection in a way that doesn’t impact the world’s trees, you can currently get pretty much the whole range at a discount online.

DriveThruStuff have a celebration of the GM on this week – advertised under the misnomer of GM’s Day. You can get the PDF PARANOIA range for the knockdown price (correct, by my calculations, at time of typing) of Â£143.91, or $204.75 (or thereabouts… my hand kept cramping on the calculator!). If you have some cash lying around, it seems like a good time.

And you can still pick up copies of the defunct Criminal Histories and The Underplex.

Criminally Low Stock

Matthew Sprange: Just to let you know that Underplex and Criminal Histories are hitting very low stock levels in our warehouse, and there are no plans to reprint them. If you want to grab these books, act quickly.

So, if you want a print copy, get over to Mongoose and buy one. Or, you could always depend on the perennially reliable online auction sites for secondhand copies.

And there are always PDF copies if you’re keen on preserving precious shelf space…

Bill’s fine Criminal Histories injected a wonderful thrill toÂ PARANOIAÂ character generation that had been missing from the system all these long years. Why should Traveller players be the only ones perched on the edges of their seats with each and every dice roll on yet another character generation chart? I know Allen Varney – writer and designer of PARANOIA (2004 edition) – relished the opportunity to format and layout dozens upon dozens of pages containing nothing but tables.

For my part, I wrote The Underplex as my first full-length project – me and my laptop against the world (or, more precisely, the ever approaching deadline). I appreciate the opportunity to add a little something to PARANOIA lore and hope that the passing of this book will not see ‘The Underplex’ forgotten like it’s namesake.

Game 2008 – Manchester

I’m going to be hanging around The Armitage Centre in Fallowfield for most of tomorrow, at Game 2008. I’ll be the one wearing the ‘Fueled by PARANOIA’ t-shirt with Omega Complex advertised on the back (which you won’t see if I’m wearing a coat… but, that depends on the heating system they have running at the Centre). I imagine I’ll spend time wandering around the traders and will be giving the Doctor Who RPG (by Cubicle 7) a go, assuming the organisers haven’t screwed up the booking system!

Perhaps I’ll see you there. Or perhaps I’ll be hiding prepared to ambush you…

Gotta Love Google

Yesterday, my SQL database took a dive. This morning, I realised that the whole blog had disappeared. An afternoon with Google, however, has almost returned the whole thing without much more effort than a mass copy/paste. Thanks Google!

Oh… and a new theme for the site. Seemed like a change might be in order.
